St Benedicts College Business and Enterprise Project

The past two weeks have been a busy and exciting time for St Benedicts College, Year 10 Drama class. Justin Craig Education commissioned the school to produce a short DVD to support their school based effective revision programme.

Justin Craig provided a brief for the project but trusted the students to put their own ‘stamp’ on it. There was no shortage of students putting themselves forward to be included in the project which started with Justin Craig’s Colchester based Managing Director Craig Halsall visiting the school to meet with the students and guide them through the brief.

The students worked exceedingly hard to develop their ideas whilst Justin Craig arranged for Signals Media Arts, a local media arts charity, to work with the students.

The group was given permission to be off timetable for the day to explore the impact of different shot types and the power of the visual image to communicate. The group then developed their storyboard along the theme of Effective Learning and Revision, and planned every detail of each of the 50 scene shots including locations and props. The highlight of the project took place on Tuesday when the group filmed the DVD. The DVD is being edited this week and will be ready for viewing shortly after half term.

Craig Halsall said “I worked with students from St Benedict’s some time ago during an enterprise summer school when the school’s radio station was set up. I knew they would be superb to work with and once again they were a credit to the school and the local community. We plan to launch the DVD early in November and want to thank the staff and students for their support in helping to make this happen”

The tutor from Signals Media Arts commented “the students were superbly organized and planned their work in the most fantastic detail. This enabled us to shoot almost two days worth of footage in just one day, which is testament to their hard work, commitment and positive attitude”

Justin Craig are committed to working with other local schools on a variety of projects to help raise student motivation and attainment.
