GCSE exam revision and the School Food Trust eating habits poll

How to get your effective GCSE exam revision underway

Students who book GCSE exam revision classes with Justin Craig Education get a well- balanced course of timetabled revision which includes proper breaks and time for socialising and allows students to make the most of their intensive revision course.

However, according to a report by the Press Association in June 2009, many students embarking on their GCSE exam revision skip meals, do less exercise and eat more junk food as a way to get them through their revision plan before the big exams commence.

The study, carried out by the School Food Trust, polled 500 13 to 17-year-olds and sadly reveals that UK students may not necessarily realise the importance of a healthy lifestyle when it comes to exam revision time.

Some of the startling statistics are as follows:

  • Less than half of the students (48%) thought that eating well would help them to revise;

  • Fewer than one in five felt that exercise was an important part of their revision timetable;

  • A staggering 79% of the students – that's eight in ten – agreed that they would be more likely to have a larger number of snacks and eat less healthily whilst revising;

  • Four out of ten (42%) students said they had skipped meals to revise;
  • Over 42% of the students chose chocolate as their revision treat of choice, followed by fizzy drinks (33%) and biscuits (31%);

  • Startlingly, one in four (26%) of the teenagers used energy drinks to aid their study and 11% admitted to using performance enhancing products such as caffeine tablets.
